An evening of fun, music, food, and the traditional Candlelight Crossover procession as you cross over from student to an alum of Emory University. The James T. Laney School of Graduate Studies will hold its Diploma Ceremony on Friday, May 5, at 2:00 pm. The ceremony will be hosted by Dean Kimberly Jacob Arriola. All graduates will be recognized individually, and doctoral graduates will be hooded by their faculty advisors. The ceremony will be live-streamed. The Emory University School of Medicine Doctor of Physical Therapy Program Diploma Ceremony will take place on Friday, May 5, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. EST at The Emory Student Center (ESC). Graduating students participating virtually, as well as additional family and friends, will have the opportunity to share in the activities via a live (and on-demand) webcast of the ceremony. The Emory University School of Medicine MD Diploma Ceremony will take place on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. EST at Glenn Auditorium. Additional guests, family, and friends will have the opportunity to share in the activities via a live (and on-demand) webcast of the ceremony. The Diploma Ceremony will feature remarks by the Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Dr. Nora Volkow. Graduating students attending in-person will be individually recognized during the ceremony. The Papageorge Teaching Award will be presented and recipients will be recognized. 5:00 p.m. | Oxford Baccalaureate |
The baccalaureate service is an Oxford tradition. Coordinated by Oxford's chaplain, this interfaith celebration of song and prayer represents the many faith traditions of our student body. All graduating students and their families and guests are invited to join this service that lasts approximately one hour. Old Church is a three-minute walk from campus, going north on Wesley Street. Go two blocks past Haygood Hall, and Old Church will be on your left. By car, go north on Emory Street (Highway 81), turn left on Fletcher Street. Follow Fletcher Street until it intersects with Wesley Street. Old Church will be directly in front of you; police officers will direct you to parking. After the Baccalaureate service dinner will be served in the Dean's Dining Room. Sign up is available to students on MarchingOrder. | |

The MAF, MSBA and MBA Diploma Ceremony will take place on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. EST at the Woodruff PE Center on Emory’s campus. Graduating students attending in-person will be individually recognized during the Ceremony. Family and friends are welcomed. Registration must be completed through the MarchingOrder Portal by April 15, 2023. No tickets are required. The ceremony will be available to view as a live stream. The Candler School of Theology Graduate Recognition Ceremony will take place in-person on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. EST. The ceremony will be held at the Glenn Memorial Auditorium, 1660 N. Decatur Road NE, Atlanta, GA, 30322. Parking is available in the Fishburne Parking Deck (nearest Glenn), 1672 N Decatur Road, Atlanta, GA 30322or the Peavine Parking Deck (nearest Candler) 29 Eagle Row NE, Atlanta, GA 30322. Doors will open for guest seating at 8:30 a.m. Graduates should plan to arrive for check in and line up at 8:15 a.m. on the N. Decatur Road-side of Glenn Memorial Auditorium. The event will be live streamed and available on Candler’s website Commencement page. On Saturday, May 6, a Graduate Recognition Brunch will be served at 11:00 a.m. at Candler School of Theology, 1531 Dickey Drive, Atlanta, GA, 30322. The Rollins School of Public Health Diploma Ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 6 at 10:00AM EST. A livestream option will be available. Summer 2022, Fall 2022, and Spring 2023 graduates are required to register to participate. The ceremony will be hosted by Dean M. Daniele Fallin. Oxford College will hold its 178th Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 6, at 10:00 a.m. on the Oxford College Quadrangle. During the ceremony Oxford College will present the Virgil Y.C. Eady Sophomore Service Award to a sophomore student and the Emory Williams Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Award to one of its faculty members. Graduating students should register themselves and their guests for the ceremony by April 25th through MarchingOrder. | |
11:00 a.m. | School of Medicine, Genetic Counseling Training Program |
The Emory University School of Medicine, Genetic Counseling Training Program Diploma Ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 11:00 AM EST in the Woodruff Health Sciences Administration Building (WHSCAB) on the Emory main campus. The Diploma ceremony will feature remarks by the Director of the Emory Genetic Counseling Training Program, Dr. Cecelia Bellcross and the commencement address by Dr. Kathryn Garber. The ceremony will also include award presentations for the “Outstanding Genetic Counseling Student of the Year”, The “Paul M. Fernhoff Excellence in Teaching Award”, and the “Best Student Research Presentation”. A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony in the WHSCAB plaza area. This exciting event includes the Class Orator, the presentation of academic and program honors and awards, a speech from the student-selected Distinguished Educator, and senior performances and superlatives. A reception will follow on Patterson Green. This event will not be ticketed. | |

An African-themed graduation ceremony celebrating the achievements of Black graduates. The ceremony pays tribute to African ancestors and heritage. After the ceremony, guests are invited to participate in the Modupe Dayo reception on McDonough Field. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served. | |
6:00 p.m. | C.A.R.A.S. |
Celebrating Accomplishments and Recognizing Academic Success (C.A.R.A.S.) is a ceremony that honors graduating members of the Latinx community at Emory. Event is hosted in both English and Spanish. After the ceremony, guests are invited to participate in the reception on McDonough Field. Dinner is provided. |
9:00 a.m. | 2023 Legacy Medallion Ceremony |
The Emory Alumni Association invites graduating Legacy students and their families to a special ceremony recognizing their connection to the University. Emory Legacy Families recognizes individuals who make an Emory education part of their family tradition. We encourage the Emory spirit in students who are children, grandchildren, and/or siblings of Emory graduates. Generations of families have passed on the Emory tradition, and we celebrate this special relationship. | |

The law school’s Degree Candidate Recognition Ceremony is scheduled to be held on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Woodruff P.E. Center on campus. The ceremony will be held in person and will feature remarks by Emory Law Dean Mary Anne Bobinski and winners of the Most Outstanding Graduating Student and Most Outstanding Professor awards. Emory Law will also present the Provost's Distinguished Teaching Award for Excellence in Graduate and Professional Education and Adjunct Teaching Award. 3:00 p.m. | Emory College of Arts and Sciences Honors Ceremony |
The Emory College of Arts and Sciences recognition of academic honorees is scheduled for Sunday, May 7 at 3:00pm. This ceremony is for graduating seniors who have completed the College Honors Program, along with their families, Honors committee directors, and College faculty. Doors will open an hour prior to the ceremony beginning. There will be a small reception at McDonough Field following the ceremony.

Graduating students and their guests* are invited and encouraged to enjoy the pomp and circumstance of Emory’s processional march featuring full academic regalia, the keynote address, honorary degree presentations, the president’s address to the graduating class, and the formal group conferral of all student degrees earned. Emory's twenty-first president, President Gregory L. Fenves, presides over the event.

The Emory College of Arts and Sciences Diploma Ceremony will take place on Monday, May 8th, immediately following the University Ceremony on the Quad. The ceremony will be held in-person and feature remarks from Interim Dean of Emory College, Carla Freeman, and the Senior Class Orator, the sole student speaker. All individual graduates will be individually recognized on stage. Tickets are not required for this ceremony. Join us as we celebrate the outstanding achievements of our Class of 2023 graduates!
